Daniel Sherman, Founder and President

Mr. Sherman has worked for the past twenty years in the nonprofit sector, and as an executive search consultant for leading national nonprofit and philanthropic institutions. Having served as Vice President of one of Washington’s leading executive search firms, in 1999 Mr. Sherman launched Explore Company. His additional experience includes working with organizations and individuals on strategic planning, facilitation and other operational issues related to the effective and efficient functioning of an organization.

For the past ten years Mr. Sherman has served as Executive Director of The Workshop Unlimited, Inc. a California-based nonprofit organization. Underwritten by grants from The Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, and the Bank of America, The Workshop seeks out models of excellence in nonprofit enterprise that advance the vitality of individuals at all levels of the organization.  One of the key projects Mr. Sherman has led is the development and production of a book on organizational change efforts by groups involved in environmental and social issues entitled,“A View from Within: A Practical Guide to Personal Vitality and Nonprofit Management.”

Mr. Sherman’s career supporting nonprofit enterprise dates back to his early work as Assistant to the Vice President with the Aspen Institute for Humanistic Studies.In this capacity, Mr. Sherman served as the project director of two major programs: FORUM: USA, a joint program with the United Way of America led by the Honorable John W. Gardner; and Governance in the Western Hemisphere, an Organization of American States program chaired by Ambassador Viron Vaky.

Steven Sherman, Vice President

Steven Sherman joined Explore Company in 2002, and is based in its Los Angeles office. He is engaged in all aspects of retained executive search with his brother Daniel Sherman. Steve has more than 20 years of consulting experience with nonprofit organizations and foundations as well as real estate and entertainment clients.

After graduating from California State University in 1978, Steve sold advertising time for the NBC Television Stations Group in New York. In 1983, he returned to California as a real estate investment consultant, first for Merrill Lynch and then Coldwell Banker, advising high net worth individuals in the Beverly Hills area. Steve began consulting in the entertainment industry in 1995, arranging financing and distribution for a number of award-winning feature films, including BOX OF MOONLIGHT starring Jon Turturro, and THE TIC CODE starring the late Gregory Hines.
