THE CASE FOUNDATION The Case Foundation (Foundation) seeks to recruit a new Senior Vice President for Programs to be based in Washington, DC. About the Case Foundation Jean and Steve Case founded the Case Foundation in 1997 to reflect their family's heartfelt commitment to finding lasting solutions to complex social challenges. Over the past few years, the Foundation has pursued a number of interesting initiatives, primarily driven by three strategic priorities:
The Foundation has applied these strategies to meet the needs of underserved children and families; create thriving and sustainable economic development for communities; bridge cultural and religious divides; expand civic engagement and volunteerism; and accelerate innovative approaches to cancer care. The Foundation's work stretches across the United States and around the world. To date, the Foundation have supported more than 150 organizations that reflect its commitment to collaboration, leadership, and entrepreneurship -- and, ultimately, to improving the health and well-being of children, families, and communities. Overview: Now the Foundation is interested in further developing its strategic focus around the issue of giving. We are exploring the potential for expanding the definition of “giving” and seeking ways to deepen civic engagement. We are imagining a giving culture in which: • Opportunities to give are available anywhere and any time. They are a part of our daily lives— as donors, volunteers, consumers, employees, neighbors, and citizens—and the different ways people can give are characterized by convenience, control, and confidence.
The Senior Vice President will work as part of a senior management team including Jean Case, CEO, Ben Binswanger, Chief Operating Officer and Brian Sasscer, Senior Vice President for Interactive Strategies on development and implementation of strategies and campaigns that support the Foundations efforts to change the meaning of civic engagement. The Foundation has been committed to using the internet to build innovative approaches to reach a new generation (“Millennials”) and others engaged in addressing critical social issues. These new “Social Citizens” represents a model and era of citizen participation that combines idealism, digital fluency, and immersion in social causes. The expansion of online social communities and networks creates a unique opportunity to impact social causes at a much larger scale and to change the way we activate, energize and connect people to issues of critical importance. In fact, new digital communities have already impacted the practice of philanthropy by making it faster, flatter, creative and democratic. The SVP will lead a team of up to eight professional staff members – including three with programmatic responsibilities and three with content and publishing responsibilities -- to implement strategies, partnerships, campaigns, and special initiatives to expand new models for citizen participation. The Foundation has an untapped opportunity to more effectively utilize outreach strategies to increase its impact with the addition of new staff resources, beginning of several new program initiatives; changes in technology and society are revamping how the world communicates; and how philanthropy is playing an increasingly important role in shaping social change. The SVP will be charged with the following overarching goals and objectives:
